Get to know Thermofoil - Product FAQ
1. What is thermofoil?
Thermofoil is a type of cabinet finish made by heat-fusing a thin layer of vinyl to medium-density fiberboard (MDF). The result is a smooth, durable surface that can mimic the appearance of painted wood or even textured wood grain. Thermofoil doors are known for their seamless look and clean, modern appeal.
4. Where are your cabinets produced?
All of our cabinets are proudly manufactured in Canada. We work exclusively with Canadian suppliers and fabricators to ensure high-quality craftsmanship and ethical production standards.
Our MDF is also locally sourced—unlike many overseas products, Canadian-made MDF is produced using updated, environmentally responsible methods. It’s denser, more stable, and lower in formaldehyde emissions than imported alternatives, giving you a safer and more durable product overall.
7. Can I get wood grain or just solid colours in thermofoil?
Absolutely. Thermofoil comes in a wide range of styles—from solid matte or gloss colours to realistic wood grain textures. It allows for a modern or classic look without the higher maintenance of natural wood finishes.
10. Do you provide design help or 3D renderings?
We offer design consultations and can provide 3D renderings to help you visualize your space before committing. Our goal is to make sure you’re confident in your design choices from day one.
2. Why choose thermofoil cabinets?
Thermofoil is an excellent choice for many homeowners and designers because it offers:
-
Consistency: The finish is smooth and uniform across all surfaces.
-
Affordability: Thermofoil is more cost-effective than solid wood or painted cabinetry.
-
Low Maintenance: It’s easy to clean and resists staining.
-
Durability: Properly cared for, thermofoil can last for many years without fading or peeling.
5. What is MDF, and why is it used in cabinetry?
MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) is an engineered wood product made from wood fibers and resin, pressed into panels. It’s commonly used in cabinetry because it:
-
Provides a smooth surface for finishes like thermofoil or paint
-
Is more resistant to warping than solid wood
-
Allows for precision machining (perfect for clean door profiles)
Our MDF is Canadian-made, which means better environmental controls, improved quality, and longer-lasting performance compared to many offshore options.
8. How long does it take to get custom cabinets?
Typical lead times vary based on the scope of your project, but most custom cabinetry orders take 6–10 weeks from final approval to delivery. We’ll provide a clear timeline during the quoting and design process.
3. What kind of maintenance do thermofoil cabinets require?
Thermofoil cabinets are very low maintenance. To keep them looking their best:
-
Wipe spills promptly with a soft cloth and mild soap.
-
Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads that can scratch the surface.
-
Keep heat sources like kettles and toasters slightly away from cabinet faces—excessive heat over time may damage the vinyl.
With basic care, your thermofoil cabinets will maintain their appearance for many years.
6. Are your cabinets custom or standard sizes?
We offer both! Our cabinetry solutions can be fully customized to suit your space, style, and storage needs. Whether you’re looking for standard-sized units or something completely unique, we can accommodate your vision.
9. Do you offer installation services?
Yes, we work with a team of experienced installers to ensure your cabinets are fitted perfectly. We also collaborate with contractors and interior designers to coordinate all aspects of the installation if needed.
